The Trip To MCA

As many of my class mates heard my opinion on the trip to the art of contemporary art, I thought of the trip as very interesting and also educational. However, there  were some opinions that I gave that got me a nick name, "the devils advocate" ,from Ms gitte. My opinion on the art works in the MCA were more like inventions than arts. I say this may be because I could not see the Piece of the artist on the art work. I could not get to feel like what I felt when saw Van Gogh's Yellow Room. Other than that all the art works were really interesting . I enjoyed the trip all in all. Some of my favorite art works are posted above.

Public art

The public art tour was extremely fascinating and educational. Alero and I went to seven public arts on Michigan avenue  from our assignment and three more out of the assignment on the tour.
I learned a lot from the tour and from the audio guide on the website. The main point for the existence of public art is for audience  to enjoy art out doors and on their way on their daily life. The art work that fascinated me most was the statue on grand park. The depiction of the native american bows man is very detailed up to the smallest parts of the human body. Other art works that amaze me were The cloud gate /AKA Bean and the Crown fountains. I saw them on the tour and when i listened to the audio guide, I found out that the bean was made of a fragments of stainless steel that are put together to  form the shape that we see now. The amazing thing is that I could not make out the points where the fragments connect to make the bean shape. Similarly the Crown fountains are made of  glass blocks with faces projected on the surface. The faces of 1000 Chicagoans.
  The tour was Amazing.

ARTIST FROM ERITREA

His name is Michel Adonai he is one of the most influencial artists of  my country. He is a very talented artist. Considering the circumstances in my country, Michel Adoni has presented best art works. His works are mostly about the social life and culture of Eritrean people since the armed struggle for their independence. He took three years of fine art lessons after joining the Eritrean liberation front in 1977. Most of his works reflected the armed struggle at that time. After independence in 1991, Michel Adoni is working in a coptic art which concerns with early Christan religion art. Here are some of his works and there is a website one can check if ever interested. http://www.adonaiartwork.com/

After that conversation they had followed by a dance, she couldn't get him out of her mind. He was young , brilliant with brown eyes and short hair. Slim but has strong hands she thought. Oh he is here! she said to her self as she heard Eric's foot steps on the hallway . But what if Arnold finds out,  she doubts her self once again. No he can't ...... she would tell her self  but deep down she knows nothing stays buried for ever. She tells her self this is the last time once again remembering that she said that last time she and Eric were together.

Art after 1945

This is a painting by Jackson Pollock . The painting is  untitled. It was  painted between 1947 and 1950s known as the "drip period". That is around the time when Pollock perfected the Dripping method painting. He was an abstract expressionist.  All his art work seams the same, but they represent different mood depending on the colors , the density of the dripped paints . For example, this painting has a black paint drip on a yellow brownish back ground. To me this painting gives me the mood of chaos and disturbance. The way the paints are dripped and the color back makes me feel disturbed. Also, if you look closely u can make out shapes like there are people fighting and kind of blood shade going on. It is an abstract painting, so different people might have different opinion about this painting.

HOW TO LIVE WITH ART

Living with art means, making art your language and means of expressing your emotions; Making it something that you embrace and love in your life. To appreciate art, sometimes to even have emotional feelings towards a piece of art is something that we humans have as instinct. But living with art is more than that. In the book, “living with art”, the quote, “…, is making art live by letting it engage our attention, our imagination, our intelligence”, expresses the meaning of living with art.
If a person has an eye for a piece of art , if that person responds to the art around him then this person is engaged  his or her attention by art. To be living with art, a person should be engaged both his imagination and his intelligence along his attention by the art, and should be able to imagine and put that imagination to work through his or her intelligence for either appreciation of or production of art. In general, living with art is being passionate about art.  Like the great artist Vincent Van Gogh said in his latter to his brother, it’s to devote yourself, heart and your soul to art. That is when you are living with art.

The trip to HOB

The trip to House of Blues was very exiting. For me, as many things are in Chicago, it was new experience. I heard the name the House of Blues before but i didn't  know it was a place where you can relax, enjoy and at the same time appreciate art.

Once i saw what was  inside, well i was amazed. The house is almost a museum! the art collections are very beautiful. Different kinds of art, folk , contemporary and stain glass painting in the same room. For people who have interest in art, The HOUSE OF BLUES is heaven on earth. The trip was a highlight of that week i really enjoyed it.
The tour was very educational and informative. I learned about life history of different artists, what motivated them to make art and what materials the use to make their art. I learned a good deal about folk art and its artists. the trip was informative in general. I hope we will go to trips as exiting as the HOB.

"THE LUST FOR LIFE"

The movie " The lust for life" is an autobiographic film of the great artist  Vincent Van Gogh. The movie shows that how talented and how creative he was. How his idea of painting was very different from other artists at  that time and how he was misunderstood by the world. His best friend Gauguin (an artist) and a brother who supported him from the time Van Gogh left Holland to the time of his death were the people whom  Van Gogh had a close personal relationship. Even those closest to him misunderstood his work and his expression of art.The movie also showed the close relation between   him and Gauguin. How they used to argue about art and how it is supposed to be expressed. Those disagreements led to a huge fight between the two  and to the break down of Van Gogh.  In general, the movie reflects how a soul tortured , talented, misunderstood great artist lived, how his passion for art controlled  him and finally destroyed him.

my reaction to the movie........

It was a sad movie really. I tried to imagine how he felt. Neglected and going no where with his work,
It is actually torturing. The life he lived would drive any man crazy. He lived such a difficult life. However, i would say his love for his work reflects even after all this years. It is just he lived at the wrong time.

The trip to AIC

The trip to Art Institute Of Chicago was one of a kind. Since this was my second time that i ever went to any museum my entire life, it was awesome! Apart from the fun i had with Anthony and Snejana, it was very educational, entertaining, and a good experience for me. Being there looking at very old and historical objects, paintings by world famous artists and actually feeling what most of the time I hear people talk about, about how art makes them feel, was the best part of the trip. The painting by Van Gogh, " the yellow room",  was one of the things that fascinated me most. It was one of the most beautiful  things I have ever laid eyes on and it made me see the role of colors on paintings. I hope we will have many of those trips in the reaming of this semester.

AIC web site

The AIC web hunt was very interesting. I learned a lot of stuff. The web site was really cool, it made me eager to go to the museum and see all the staff i saw on the web.  Even after the trip, I visited the web site three times. Every time i vist the web site i see something interesting and beautiful. Of all the things i saw on the web site, i cant understand why but my eyes were attracted to this object.

May be it is because of the shape, maybe the color  or maybe because it represents a glorious myth animal , The dragon. either way it is my favorite. so i thought i share it with you guys . what do u think
